Herbert ran around until he reached the spot where Sam and Tina used to rest often.
He sat there, holding the leash in his mouth and looking around.
Mia felt a little sad as she grabbed onto one of Evie's fingers and said, "Does Herbert miss Sam and Tina too?"
"Dogs are like that. They miss their previous owners, but that doesn't mean they don't love you." Evie squatted down, wiped the sweat off Mia's face, and gently explained.
Mia nodded.
She didn't feel jealous of Sam and Tina. She just pitied Herbert who couldn't meet the people he missed.
Just like her.
She missed her mother so much, but she could only see her through video calls and couldn't hug or kiss her!
The two of them played with Herbert until it got dark.
They walked back slowly, holding Herbert's leash.
They didn't need to pass by Mia's home to get back to Aron's house.
But she knew that her brother also wanted to see Herbert.
So, they took a detour and went to their house, where Mia could ask her brother to come to the window to see Herbert.
Herbert seemed to understand Mia's intentions.
When he saw Aiden, the dog circled twice in place and barked happily at him.
Aiden was visibly delighted.
They even let Alice bring out chicken sausages to feed Herbert.
After they had enough fun, Mia and Evie, along with Herbert, walked tiredly toward Aron's house.
"We've been out playing with Herbert for three hours. It's too late." Evie looked at the time and reflected on herself. "Tomorrow, we'll only play for an hour at most. Are you listening, Mia?"
