I was no longer interested in this conversation, so I angled my body to walk around her.
Suddenly, she reached out and grabbed my arm. Thoroughly annoyed, I frowned at her. "What else do you want to say, Miss Zanes?"
She smiled insidiously. "I have plenty to say. Since you are so calm about everything, then you might be calm about death too, am I right?"
With that, she changed her grip, intending to push me into the pool.
I didn't know how to swim. I twisted away and forcefully pinched her arm to let me go.
She jerked back in pain, and the momentum drove her away from me, towards the pool. So because of inertia, what was supposed to be me falling into the pool, turned into her falling instead.
She fell in with a loud splash, an oddly pleasurable sound.
A beautiful woman falling into the water garnered a certain amount of attention. Not that the woman in question enjoyed the attention.
Someone came to Rowane's side after seeing her struggling in the water for several moments. The guy helped her to stand, as the water was not deep. When her feet touched the floor, she realised that the man was holding onto her chest. Mortified, she screamed, "Get out of my way!"
The man was mad at being yelled at. He went from trying to help the struggling woman, to pushing her back into the water.
As Rowane flailed her arms and spluttered in the water, the people surrounding her watched on in amusement. No one made a move to help her get away from the man.
Startled, I opened my mouth to speak, to stop the man from acting too rashly when I heard a deep voice beside my ear say, "Let her go!"
The voice was full of authority, coming from a powerful man used to being obeyed. The man snapped to his senses and he immediately released Rowane.
