Rowane had arrived before us at the scene, looking through the items which were still in place. When she came across some damaged high-tech equipment, she seemed pained and at a loss.
Sebastian was speaking with the police. When he saw Hendrix arrive, he stepped forward and said, "Sorry, Milton Group will investigate this matter and give your company an explanation as soon as possible."
Hendrix nodded and glanced at the crime scene before asking, "Have you confirmed the missing items?"
"Yes," Sebastian said simply, "Miss Zanes has already checked it."
When Linda saw that we were there, she trotted over with self-blame on her face, "I'm sorry, this is my fault. Before I left last night, I had come to see this place. There were 12 guards here at first. I saw a lot of interesting high-tech research around, and I excitedly looked around for quite a while. Hence, I asked the guards to leave for their dinner break first. The guard in charge told me to lock the doors when I was done, but I forgot and left!"
There were four gates in front of the Science and Technology Museum. Apart from the main door, the three other gates were all equipped with password recognition locks and infrared sensors. Before Linda went in last night, she shut down the infrared sensors. As the rays were harmful to the human body, once any executives or visitors went in, they had to turn off the sensors. There were usually guards in position, so even if the infrared sensors were down, security could still be upheld.
However, it happened at night. The criminals had enough time to steal what could be taken from the base.
"Do you know how much time and effort we spent on all this research? I had spent countless sleepless nights on this project. How can a mere apology settle the matter?!" Rowane walked out from the base, the anger on her face clearly visible.
She glared furiously at Sebastian. "Mr. Milton, you must give us a good explanation for this matter. I hope that it is fair and reasonable. Please don't let us believe that our business partner practices jobbery!"
Sebastian nodded. "Miss Zanes, don't worry. I will handle this matter with care. I will definitely give Roberts Group a proper explanation for it!"
Still furious, Rowane looked at him. "Miss Reid, you're the person in charge of this project, aren't you? Such a disaster happened, but you don't say a word?! Do you plan to just be an innocent bystander?"
I frowned. I knew that she didn't like me. And on top of that, she had lost her precious research and equipment. Clearly, she was in a foul mood.
I could not help but say gently, "Miss Zanes, don't worry. I will take all responsibility for this matter and accept any punishment from the company. But what we should consider now is not who should be punished, but how to minimize losses at once!"
"Minimize losses?" Rowane sneered. "You think it's easy. Now, everything in the base has either been damaged or taken away. Close to nothing can still be of use. Now, the project has been launched and has to be completed in a month. What would happen if we cannot deliver any results by then? What would the public think of Roberts Group?!"
"We are all clear about the consequences. But, Miss Zanes, please don't be so emotional. If we go on this way, we will not only mess up our remediation steps, but also exacerbate matters!" Linda said, "This loss is not only suffered by the Roberts Group but also the Milton Group. We are on the same boat, and we are all anxious!"
