Valerie took me into the bedroom, which was quite large. It was larger than the living room of an ordinary house. The design was elegant and simple, which was how I liked it.
As she placed Anne on the bed, Valerie said, "Some of the clothes in the cloakroom are chosen by your father, and some are selected by me. I see that you usually wear a lot of simple clothes, so I picked them according to your style... But I'm not sure if you'd like them or not. But it doesn't matter. If you don't, we can change them. Those bags and jewelry were procured by your father over the past few years. They are all kept in top-quality. I know Hendrix treats you very well. You have a lot of expensive jewelry, and may not like these, but these are what we could provide for you. We want to give the best to you. We had made a lot of mistakes in the past and we want to make it up to you now. I know that you'd always hold a grudge against us and so, we won't force you to forgive us. But as long as you are willing to return to see us, we are more than happy."
Valerie spoke as tears poured down her cheeks. She sobbed hard and I gently patted her shoulder, "Everything will be alright from now on!" I
comforted her.
I did not know what the future would be like, but for me, the most important thing was family. Although my family was complicated, we were related by blood, and so, we'd be able to overcome them together. I was sure that I would learn the true meaning of family eventually.
Valerie looked at me and smiled with gratitude. In fact, she did not need to make things so clear. Her sincere actions were enough to show me how much she treasured me as part of the family.
I had already made up my mind to do my best in life. I did not want to leave the world with any regrets in my heart.
For the rest of my life, I would cherish everything I had.
"It's getting late. You should go to bed early. What do you want to eat tomorrow? I'll cook for you. Anne doesn't have to go to school tomorrow. We can spend time together!" Valerie said with an unconcealable smile on her face.
I smiled faintly and said, "Anything will do, I'm not picky about food!" That was true. Although I did not have a big appetite, I wasn't a picky eater either.
She nodded, "Okay, I'll whip up my best dishes then!" She then nagged me to go to bed earlier
again.
I nodded. Indeed, I was feeling a little sleepy.
When she walked to the door, Valerie suddenly seemed to think of something. She turned to ask me seriously, "Did you have a quarrel with Hendrix?"
I was stunned as I didn't expect her to ask out of the blue. I smiled and said, "No, I just missed Anne too much, so I called Freya as soon as I got off the plane. I haven't told Hendrix about it!"
Usually, Hendrix would come with me, but this time, I was alone. Therefore, I did not blame them for thinking that way.
