My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 1236

The third wife's daughter was Miss Monica, who we met at the Hayes Manor. She was a little older, almost 40 years old. Because she had always been protected by the Hayes family and was used to being pampered, she was arrogant and had shown much disdain towards various young masters from other noble families. Therefore, she had been living in the Hayes Manor all these years. She probably wanted to stay in the Hayes Manor for the rest of her life and not get married.

Otherwise, she would not be so upset when she found out that Master Hayes handed over everything to Tobias.

As for Gerald's fourth wife, she wasn't considered a legal wife like the previous three ladies. She was a woman Gerald had slept with, in the spur of the moment. Gerald led a dissolute life, and not every woman he encountered could enter the Hayes family.

Hendrix didn't say much about Tobias's mother. He only said that she once accompanied Gerald to the Ocean Premium Restaurant. She was probably a model and got pregnant with Tobias by accident.

After Hendrix and I finished paying our respects,

Tobias took a long look at me, disdain in his eyes.

I paid it no mind.

Tobias then looked at Hendrix and asked, "Mr. Roberts, can I have a word with you?"

I figured that they were going to discuss the company's affairs.

Hendrix looked at me and instructed, "Wait for me in the yard. I'll look for you there later."

I nodded.

The courtyard of the Hayes family had a very elegant layout. There were pavilions, rockeries, ponds, and autumn grass. The vast courtyard had the most beautiful scenery. It looked like the house of an ancient official.

I could understand why Gerald married so many wives and yet could have them peacefully live together. They lived in a mansion worth billions of dollars and spent money however they desired. They led a carefree life.

Those palatial dramas on TV got it ridiculously wrong. How boring it was for so many women to fight for an old man's love. They were actually fighting for status and reward. A shiver of disgust ran down my spine at the thought of them fighting for an old man's love.

"Tobias is just an illegitimate child. If your brothers weren't sent abroad, he wouldn't even be qualified to enter the Hayes family." I was taken aback by that. I looked over to where the voice came from and saw a mother and a daughter sitting in the courtyard.

It was Monica Hayes and her mother, Gerald's third wife, Amelia. She was almost sixty years old but looked like she was only in her forties. She really took good care of herself.

Monica, on the other hand, looked older than her age. She must have been constantly dealing with unpleasant matters, to look so haggard.

Amelia looked at her calmly and said, "You just have to make sure you take good care of those companies in your hands. As for who will take charge of the Hayes family, it has nothing to do with us. Our lives go on. Are you afraid that Tobias will drive us out of the Hayes family?"

Monica was not convinced. She snorted and said, "You're the kind of person who doesn't fight for anything. If you had fought harder, my brothers wouldn't still be abroad when Father died. What's Tobias's status? His mother is just a dirty model. She's a woman who has had many love affairs. Who knows if Tobias is really Father's child? Father just gave the Hayes family to him in such a muddle-headed manner. Isn't he worried that he would ruin the Hayes family? From now on, whenever we go out, people will laugh at us - the Hayes family being controlled by someone who is not from the Hayes family. Mother, I just can't let it go!"
