Hendrix drove the car to the entrance of the Greenland Hotel. There was already a crowd outside and the staff seemed well trained at welcoming their guests. "Is this for you?" I asked Hendrix.
Hendrix shook his head. "No!"
A tall and heavily built man came out of the hotel. I couldn't see clearly at first, but as I walked in, I realized it was Oscar. He caught a glimpse of Hendrix, walked up to us with a face full of smiles and shook hands with him. "I heard that Mr. Roberts wants to re-open the tender. I came here early in the morning. Mr. Roberts, it's impossible for you to look past our company this time."
This man's words were really...
I pursed my lips and couldn't help but hold onto Hendrix. Oscar looked at me and smiled awkwardly, but he still smiled and said, "Miss Reid, it's been a long time. You're looking more and more charming."
The only thing I admired about this person was that, even though both of us knew that we held deep resentment for each other, he still had the ability to flatter me with a smile on his face.
I puckered my lips. Of course, I couldn't forget what happened at the bar before. I couldn't just let it pass. Seeing that I didn't respond, he didn't get angry at all. He introduced his company respectfully, while thinking of ways to sweet talk Hendrix.
Hendrix didn't say a word. He was as indifferent as ever. I wasn't sure if he had even heard anything that Oscar said, but I sure didn't.
I narrowed my eyes and couldn't help looking at Oscar, saying to him, "You have so many roles. These days even government servants can start up a company to gain profit? I thought just a while ago the policy was that government- employed teachers weren't allowed to open their own tuition classes, and government employees weren't allowed to earn a profit outside of the government. It seems like that didn't matter at all to you, did it, Oscar?"
Seeing that I'd mentioned his position in the government sector, he quickly corrected his words, "Miss Reid, how can I own a company? I just said it without thinking. I didn't expect to be misunderstood by Miss Reid. I'm talking about my wife. She can't sit idly by. She always wanted to start a company and make a career for herself, so she did. I'm even here today on leave!"
I smiled and said, "Now that you have mentioned your wife, it seems that I did think too much. It would be such an honor to meet her."
When the elevator arrived, Oscar changed the subject. He asked Hendrix to go straight to the bidding room and found an opportunity to leave.
Hendrix looked at me and said, "You usually don't talk much. Why did you talk to Oscar today? Did he get on your nerves before?"
I shrugged, found a seat, sat down, and said, "Not really, but he did provoke me. I hate him very much. He abandoned his child and wife, yet he had the audacity to say his wife was the one who built a company. It's shameless."
Hendrix looked at me and asked, "How did you know?"
I pressed my lips together and said, "His ex-wife is Linda. Linda used to take care of her child. He has no wife at all, and he is talking nonsense. The company is his own, but he pretends to work for others' interests. How dare he talk so flagrantly!"
Hendrix smiled as I nagged on!
Rowane placed a document in Hendrix's hand and looked at me with a frown. It seemed that she felt that I shouldn't have come here. She couldn't help but frown slightly to show her displeasure.
