I was so shocked by her sudden words that I didn't know what to say. I just said lightly, "I'm not trying to gossip!"
She sneered and leaned on the sink, looking at me. "Don't pretend to be better than the rest of us. You obviously heard it. If you want to laugh, just laugh. It doesn't matter. I don't care."
I pursed my lips and washed my hands, ready to leave. I had nothing to do with her anymore.
Seeing that I was about to leave, she opened her mouth and said, "We are old friends. Why are you in such a hurry to leave? I thought that since we met, we could talk. Why leave? By the way, how’s Josiah? By right, the child should have had a reaction by now."
I frowned and looked back at her. "Chloe, I don't know what kind of attitude you have towards life, but I'm different from you. Since you've already found the person you want to rely on, then please don't interfere in other people's lives. Also, Anne is my daughter, neither you nor Josiah should be anywhere near her. If you so much as think of doing anything to Anne, I can guarantee you that I will make your life miserable."
She laughed and said, "So, are you threatening me? I'm not interested in the child. I am just reminding you. When the child was taken away, it was far from as simple as you think. I thought Josiah would at least tell you the truth, but he didn't seem to want to tell you at all. Since that's the case, I don't have to say anything more. After all, it's not good to say too much."
I felt a little strange hearing what she said. I looked at her with a frown and asked, "What do you mean?"
She shrugged. "Nothing! I'll leave now, Mrs. Roberts. See you soon!"
After that, she left. I stood in the same place and felt a little dazed from our encounter. The meaning of her words made me a little flustered. I came out of the bathroom absent-mindedly.
I didn't notice Hendrix standing in the corridor. I didn't react until I walked into his arms and felt him holding me. I looked up immediately. I asked in confusion, "Why are you here?"
He raised his hand, and brushed the hair on my forehead to one side. He looked at me and said, "I was worried that something had happened to you, so I came over to have a look. What's wrong? You look out of your mind."
I shook my head and looked at him with a smile.
"It's all right. I just ran into an acquaintance. Let's go and eat!" Then I pulled him back to our table.
When we passed by a room and heard the sound of glass breaking, Hendrix and I were stunned for a moment. We looked over and saw several middle-aged men eating inside, and one of them was a familiar face.
I looked at Hendrix uncertainly and asked, "Is that Austin?"
Hendrix frowned but didn't say anything.
For some reason, the woman sitting next to Austin was suddenly slapped by another woman, whose back was facing us. The slap was so heavy that we felt the pain even from outside.
The person who was slapped was the one I met in the bathroom just now, Chloe. She did not respond to the slap but smiled. Instead, she held onto Austin's arm haughtily, looking like she was showing off.
