I chuckled.
I smirked. It seemed like I was right, I shouldn't have underestimated him. I shrugged and said with a smile, "In this case, it seems that you have a well-thought-out plan."
He looked at me and said, "Miss Reid, I think we can end the conversation here. Both of us are very aware of what we desire. If that's the case, do we even have to continue talking?"
His words were reasonable and sound. After giving it some thought, I knew that he wasn't wrong. However, I didn't like to be threatened. Looking straight at him, I uttered, "You do make a fairly good point, but you've made a mistake. Abby may be the perfect candidate to undergo the organ transplant, but it is not like she is the only person who could do that. I can just wait for a little longer and continue looking for someone else. However, it's different in your case. There's no way you can wait this out. If you didn't mention it, I might just agree to your conditions. But since you threatened me, then I don't really feel like making a deal with you anymore. After all, I'm not the one who's desperate for money now."
The people outside started smashing the door.
The door was already barely hanging onto its hinges. Now, it had completely burst open and the people outside were armed as they charged in.
Laura was so frightened that her legs gave out. She cried and begged, "Miss Reid, please. Please save us. We have no way out of this. Only you can save us now. We will promise you anything. Please, I'm begging you."
I pursed my lips and felt pity for her, but I was stopped by Sheridan. He pulled me aside and shielded me behind him. He stared at the woman and said, "She can't help you. Money is not a big deal, but this is a human life you're talking about here. That's something beyond her control."
As soon as his words rang out, I was pulled back to my senses. Susan had murdered someone. If money could solve the problem, then it was not a huge issue. But it was a human life, so how could it be that simple?
Just now, my mind was fixated on money and I had forgotten that someone had died. How could we compensate for human life?
That was someone's precious son. How could things be that simple?
I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. If it weren't for Sheridan, I would have completely forgotten about this matter.
Gail looked sullen at this moment. He stared at me and said, "Miss Reid, I promise you that I will apply for the children's identification papers. I'll do whatever you want."
Sheridan frowned and uttered before I could open my mouth, "There's no need!"
After he finished his sentence, the entire house was crowded with villagers. I was pulled to the corner by Sheridan. The house couldn't accommodate too many people.
Therefore, only a few men entered. They stared straight at Gail and said, "Gail, what are you hiding for? Your daughter has killed someone. Hand her over to us, or else this might turn ugly!"
"Rick, let's save the nonsense. Let's find that b*tch, kill her and bury her together with Max." As he was saying that, people started ransacking the house.
In an instant, the entire house was transformed into a dumpster as belongings were rummaged and tossed out into the open. Susan was nowhere to be found, thus they turned their attention to Gail and started carrying him out of the house.
