Rick narrowed his eyes at me, "I lost my son and spent a hundred thousand dollars for nothing. Do you think I am going to turn a blind eye to this? How dumb do you think I am?"

Instead of refuting his words, I just answered, "Of course not. If you trust me, you might as well listen to my opinion."

He narrowed his eyes and replied, "Alright, speak." "There's nothing we can do about your son's death. The person who murdered your son should be the one to take full responsibility for this, but Susan has fled and she is nowhere to be found. Therefore, the only thing we can do now is to discuss this like civilized people and try to figure out a solution that both of you would be satisfied with. What I mean is the Hathaway family should compensate the betrothal money as they are obliged to do that."

Rick snorted, "I'm not short on cash."
