"His name is Yonas Fisher. He is a boy. He was brought to the city when he was 14 years old. Back then, a rich man wanted to adopt him, but later he felt that he was a little too old, and so he didn't want to adopt him anymore."
"Doesn't he have a family in the countryside?" Male children were treated preciously in the countryside, why was he sent away?
Susan lowered her head and said, "When he was still a kid, he was sent to live in the countryside. After he had grown up, Mr. Hathaway brought him back to the city. Most of the employees inside the Emperor Club were all from the orphanage. They were all under Mr. Hathaway's control."
I was a little confused. What did the orphanage have to do with this?
"So are you asking me to help you find the boy named Yonas?" I stared at Susan and asked.
She nodded, "Yonas said that there were a ton of shady things going on inside the club. He wanted to flee, and he didn't wish to be kept in that place anymore. However, after this incident, I went and looked for him, but he was nowhere to be found. Mr. Hathaway must have found out about him and locked him up. They are going to kill him, Miss Reid, please save him!"
Seeing how pitiful she was, I was in no hurry to answer. I just watched as Evan enter the room again, dragging the barely alive John along. My gaze swept across John and I pursed my lips. "It seems that I'll be busy again."
Seeing that I didn't answer her, Susan tugged at my sleeve and cried. "Miss Reid, please, save him. They will kill him. Please."
I frowned and felt a little irritated. I looked up at Hendrix and said, "Susan, have you heard of the law of conservation? I see no point in helping that friend of yours, so you can save your effort."
Her eyes were watery and she still had something to say, but I pulled myself away and stopped looking at her. I walked up to John and said slowly, "I always felt that I was not a bad person, so every time I came across people in need, I would try my best to help them. But now, I realized that my kindness was in vain. Not only was it useless, but I would be taken advantage of. After so long, I finally got pregnant, and I thought that this was God's doing, but you took it away from me. When I was lying on the hospital bed, I kept thinking of ways to torture you, to avenge my poor child."
He looked at me with fear in his eyes. "Miss Reid, I didn't know you were pregnant, and I didn't know you were Mr. Roberts' wife. Sorry, I know I was wrong. Please, let me go!"
I cackled. "Let you go?"
As humans, we couldn't be too kind, I had a lot of experience of my kindness being used against me. I laughed even more hysterically. "John, do you know how it feels to lose the thing you care about the most?"
He shook his head and he was silently chanting his prayers. I ignored him.
Sheridan sent me a message and after I replied to his message, I stared at John. I didn't feel a single ounce of pity for this man.
About five minutes later, Sheridan came in with a woman. The woman's belly was huge. It seemed that she was about five months along in her pregnancy.
