My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 1519

In the car, she leaned against the passenger seat and rested with her eyes closed. It had been a long day. The courtyard in the Granger Manor was still the same as before, although there had been some renovations here and there in recent years.

The pond in the yard had been filled, and fruit trees were planted in the soil. It was winter now, so the leaves had fallen, and there were only naked branches.

I parked my car outside the yard and watched Shirley enter. She took a few steps and suddenly turned around to look at me. She asked with a serious expression, "Arianna, if, I'm saying if, Mr. Roberts was gone, would you choose Irvin instead?"

I paused for a moment and observed her. Her eyes sparkled under the dim streetlight. "No!" I was certain about my answer. "You said 'if', and to me, there is no such thing as 'if. I am a stubborn person. I chose Hendrix, and I don't want anyone else but him. To me, no one measures up to Hendrix."

She gazed at me and sighed deeply. After a long time, she nodded. "Well, okay. Now, I know!"

Her question was really abrupt.

Watching her walk in, I stared blankly at the place that was once the pond. It seemed that everything had changed since the last time I was here. When I first met Irvin, we were in the Granger Manor. At that time, he was reticent and his face was always expressionless.

I remembered that day he took me to the Granger Manor. When I got out of the car, he chased me from behind, and I accidentally pushed him into the pond. It was freezing in the winter, so he fell ill the next day. His cell phone got broken too. It had been a long time and I seemed to have forgotten most of the details.

After a while, I turned around and prepared to go home.

I was startled when I suddenly saw the black Bentley parked beside me. It was none other than Irvin, whom I haven't seen for a long time.

His dark eyes focused on me. He was wearing a black suit. He looked lonely and indifferent. He appeared colder than ever.

"When did you arrive?" I asked and walked to the side of the car. I didn't hear the sound of the car, perhaps because I was too lost in my thoughts.

He pursed his lips and scrutinized me. His cold stare made me frightened.

"Even without him, you won't choose me?" What he said shocked me.

Did he hear what I said to Shirley?

"Um... like I said, there are no 'if's." I felt embarrassed for a moment when I saw him, but it was only for a split second. I opened my mouth to continue, "In fact, I'm sure you are aware too. To me, there's no such thing as 'if'. Hendrix is my husband and the love of my life. We are like two duckweeds to each other. Us being able to meet among billions of people and be together is fate and may also be a gift. To be more specific, he is like the lighthouse in my life. His light makes me determined and brave to go forward in life. Irvin, I don't know what you understand about love. But to me, it's not about simply choosing anyone, because love itself exists independently. We can love many people in our lives, just like you; you loved me in the past and you will fall in love with others in the future. But Hendrix and I are more than that. We are like one and we need to face the future together."
