Hendrix had kept his silence. Elijah and Eddison could have taken it as tacit approval and glossed over it, and it would have all been over. However, Aaron's words had made the atmosphere awkward in an instant. Eddison raised his glass halfway and put it down again. He sat back with a faint smile and put the glass back on the table stiffly.
Eddison was humiliated, and therefore he looked gloomy. However, it was Elijah who spoke first. Probably because of the Twitter incident, his hostility towards Aaron was greater. He stood high, and put on the airs of a senior. "I almost forgot if you haven't brought it up, Mr. Reid. The Reid and Forbes families are both civil and polite people, but now, our private issues are published on the Internet, making it joke fodder for the whole city. Although someone was brought from the countryside in his teens, he should know the rules after so many years being here!"
After that, he placed the glass heavily on the table and sat back in his seat. The glass shook on the table and almost poured out. Fortunately, Elijah's wife reached out in time to help him, so that the atmosphere would not be more tense.
Realizing I was observing her, we nodded to each other as a greeting.
Unexpectedly, Elijah, a man who could not distinguish right from wrong, married a woman with a gentle temperament.
In high society, a history of being adopted in the countryside would not be glorious, especially in front of people of the same class. It was clear that he wanted to embarrass Aaron.
Aaron lowered his head and sneered. Then he turned his head and fixed his deadly gaze at Elijah. "Mr. Forbes, what you said is indeed true. I dislike following rules the most. I don't intend to follow the rules today either. Matt Forbes kidnapped my sister and almost killed my twin nephews. I've already decided to let him stay abroad all his life. It's that or I'll sue him till I've sent him to jail!"
He was agitated, and this scene was getting more and more out of control. However, Eddison was used to seeing such a fuss. In the blink of an eye, his displeasure had been swept away on his face. He patiently appeased the crowd, "All right, all right, there is no need to make a big fuss at a private banquet. Just take it as a sign of respect for me and happily finish the meal, okay?"
The words were for Aaron, so the others did not know how to respond. Aaron's attitude determined whether the rest could continue enjoying the meal calmly.
All the guests were waiting for Aaron's response, but his attention was on Hendrix. He squinted, pursed his lips, raised his eyebrows arrogantly, and suppressed his anger.
Hendrix was meant to be the protagonist of this banquet, but after he sat down, he did not speak, and let Eddison and Elijah lead the situation. It seemed that they were on the same side.
Aaron had only one purpose, to seek justice for me and the unborn babies. He was in a bad mood when he saw Hendrix's attitude, so he began to speak sardonically. "Some people talked big before, but he still dared not curse in the face of the enemy who hurt his wife and children. This is really eye-opening..."
Aaron's bitter words made the atmosphere even more awkward.
However, Hendrix acted as if he hadn't heard anything. He raised his hand and picked up the wine glass in front of him as if nothing had happened. He took a sip slowly and carefully put it back. His movements were elegant.
Aaron was so annoyed that he suddenly stood up and knocked the cutlery in front of him to the ground. "I'm talking about you, Hendrix Roberts. Stop pretending to be dumb!"
