It was lunch break. Most of the employees had gone to have lunch. When Freya and I went in, there was almost no one in the office.
We heard some employees gossiping. They were chuckling loudly. "Oh, I don't think that'll happen. Even if Miss Zanes has the ability, she doesn't have the right!"
Another replied, "That's not necessarily true. What if she and Mr. Roberts suddenly clicked? If she really succeeds at becoming Mrs. Roberts, you'll have to flatter her as much as you can to get ahead!"
The unscrupulous gossip in the break room was particularly clear in the quiet office. Without waiting for Freya to say more, I had already walked towards the direction of the gossipers. I deliberately slowed down my footsteps, walked to the door, and quietly leaned in to see what was going on inside.
There were a total of six men and women sitting on the sofa with their backs to the door, still continuing the topic.
"Perhaps Mr. Roberts is interested in Miss Zanes. The President has hired so many female secretaries, and Miss Zanes is the one who stayed the longest. Furthermore, I heard someone say that she cooks for Mr. Roberts every day. As the saying goes, the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. It won't be long before she seizes him!"
"Eh, I don't think so. A man like Mr. Roberts wouldn't be impressed by something like this. He gets to eat exquisite food everyday! Come on, and you're in the Planning Department? You're so simple- minded, it's no wonder that you haven't gotten a promotion after so long..."
"Why are you attacking me now?"
There was a lot of debate in the room and I was particularly interested in it, but Freya must have felt something, and her expression was extremely dark.
If the people inside went on talking, things might get ugly.
I put a fist over my mouth and deliberately cleared my throat. I put on a serious expression and prepared to meet the employees.
The room fell into silence in the blink of an eye, and the staff all looked at me and Freya, their eyes full of fear.
