Emma scrunched her face in disgust at my ridiculous smile.
I couldn't control my laughter. Even if Emma didn't describe it, I could imagine how confused Aaron's expression was at that time. He had finally come across a tough opponent. He wanted to use the same tricks he played to drive Yana away, but Emma didn't fall for his schemes.
"Miss Reid."
All of a sudden, I heard a courteous voice, and my smile froze. I did not turn around until I completely wiped it off.
As expected, Serene Forbes finally approached me.
When our eyes met, the both of us maintained a perfect, polite smile. We looked like old friends who had been on good terms since forever. It was impossible to tell that we were love rivals instead.
As she was the host, the attention of the guests shifted toward the both of us as she walked over.
"Congratulations, Miss Forbes." I expressed my commendation as I raised my glass of champagne.
"Thank you," Serene replied, without any hostility hidden beneath her smile. "Miss Reid, I heard you've started a law firm. Our company has encountered something problematic recently. I wonder if you'd like to help us with that?"
Whether it was a blessing or a curse, I couldn't avoid it. Although I managed to escape the siege of the media, I still had to face the gossip among the famous individuals.
If I accepted the Forbes Group's request, it would mean that I couldn't compare to Serene, and that after leaving Hendrix, I now had to rely on the woman beside him for business. If I did not accept it, it would mean that I was petty, which would solidify the ugly rumors. I was trapped either way. As expected, Serene was not just any ordinary person.
