Serene had probably never imagined that a pampered woman would be so difficult to deal with.
"Ten billion dollars it is. Let's sign the contract today," she said while squinting her enticing eyes. It seemed that she was giving it her all to obtain the shares. She continued shrewdly, "The Roberts Group does have a lot of potential to develop, but it needs a more powerful backup to help boost its improvement further. Hendrix can't do it alone, but I can. Miss Reid, rewards don't just fall from the sky in the real world. If you continue to hold the shares, Roberts Group may lose their best investor. When that happens, who knows what might happen to the five billion dollars in your possession, let alone this additional ten billion dollars. You'd better think it over."
To be honest, these words were so provocative that I would have been so close to falling into the temptation, assuming that these shares were not entrusted to me by Master Roberts.
Looking at her stern and sincere expression, I ,too, gave a look of dawning realization, which displayed my feigned ignorance.
When Serene's face eased up a little, the corners of my lips curled up and I started acting like a crook again while insisting, "I still think it's better not to sell it off."
Just in case she could not hear what I said clearly, I articulated every single word. "Miss Forbes, you know very well I'm not short of money under the provision of the Reid and Moore family, so I don't have to put my shares up for sale to support myself. However, you have reminded me that the Roberts Group is only listed domestically. You want to invest in it at all costs, but in the future, Hendrix will be chosen by the investment bankers in Wall Street. I'm afraid that there would be no market then, so you won't be able to buy it with money. You won't be able to afford them. In this case, what reason do I have to sell them?"
As soon as I stopped, her face fell completely. She glared at me with a sly gaze, and there was fury in her eyes. "You're smarter than I thought," she admitted.
I puckered my lips together and neither approved nor disagreed with her statement.
Indeed, a woman who took the gesture of naming her own price seriously should not have thought of hoarding the shares of Roberts Group. But thanks to Serene, she indirectly gave me a way out. Otherwise, I would not have been able to refuse the two billion dollars she offered for free, since I could not find any excuse to reject it.
We gazed at each other tensely for about half a minute, and Serene seemed to have thought of something. She picked up her bag, stood up, and turned to leave. Not even two steps later, she suddenly stopped and turned around coldly while declaring, "I'll make you change your mind."
"Well see about that," I replied while putting up a bored facade as I slumped on the chair like an uneducated brat.
Serene didn't linger around for too long and walked out.
As soon as she left, I immediately dialed Hendrix's private number on the phone.
Once the line was connected, he asked before I could say anything, "Serene Forbes came to see you, didn't she?"
I smiled and nodded toward the phone as I replied, "You've already guessed it, haven't you?"
"The Bate Coin is profitable now, and the Forbes family is not able to involve themselves in this business. With her headstrong personality, she is bound to never let go of this opportunity. Of course, this is a super risky investment after all. She can't afford it with the company she established, so she wants to join hands with me. You are the second largest shareholder, so who else would she look for?" Hendrix said casually.
However, there was still one thing I could not figure out. "Didn't the Forbes Group and the Drake family cooperate before? Wouldn't the Drake family include them, since this is such a good chance to earn?"
After listening to his explanation, I found out that the reason why both families had a fall out was because of Matt, the playboy.
