My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 1858

My law firm had been up and running for quite a while, but I barely kept a healthy balance of profit and loss. Freya, on the other hand, had invested in many potential stocks after her divorce, raising her value several times over. I had to admit that doing business still depended on one's talent for it.

Nodding to show my agreement, I turned around and went into the bathroom to take a shower.

Before going to bed at night, I searched for things to look out for during auctions - the typical dos and don'ts - and then went to sleep with ease.

When I woke up, Freya had already gone out. I did not know if it was to hide from Cyril or if she had gone out on her own accord as mentioned in her note.

The auction would be held at six in the evening. At five-thirty, a car came by to pick me up.

When I arrived, the auction site was full of people. Foreign media were seated orderly by a corner and the place was quiet and grand.

"Ladies and gentleman..."

After the auction began, I diverted my full attention to the items on stage, afraid of missing out on anything.

Hendrix sat a distance away from me, expressionless as usual. He looked at the stage with his dark eyes. It was impossible to know what emotions he harbored within.

He said that everything I wanted to know would be revealed at the auction. But apart from seeing Baldrick, who had met Sebastian before, give his speech at the beginning of the action, the whole event could be said to have gone perfectly fine without any blips.

This left me a little confused.

Fortunately, the auction's afterparty was not open to reporters and there were not many familiar faces around. I immediately found Hendrix and walked to him with a glass in my hand.
