Hendrix shot an emotionless stare at Kennedy, who was looking rather frantic. He decided to stop hiding the fierceness in his tone. "Aunt Kennedy, Uncle Trent, which one of you is planning to tell me who the man in this photo is? Everyone knows that this person is dead, yet he now lives in Mesville. Why?"
The change of tone in his last few sentences showed that Hendrix was past concealing his emotions.
Even I could tell that Trent wasn't surprised when he saw Johannes' photo. It turned out Hendrix was right about Trent knowing the truth.
Hendrix had once said that although Trent treated him quite well, he had always been slightly distant with Hendrix. Thus, Hendrix slowly lost his sense of security with him, and no longer bothered about knowing the truth.
It was only until he took over the Roberts Group and became a calculative businessman himself that came to a gradual realization that he could trust no one in the world.
Hendrix had always blamed the distance between himself and Trent on the ugly side of humanity; forgetting the simplest possibility that perhaps they were never family in the first place.
What couldn't be explained at this point was the DNA test.
"Uncle Trent, am I really your nephew?" Hendrix's voice grew colder.
Anyone could change their identity or forge their death certificates. It would've been easy for Johannes to manipulate the DNA test.
Trent took a deep breath to collect himself. However, his voice was still weak, trembling as he said, "You already have the truth figured out. So, why are you asking me? Yes, we are not blood-related. You are not a Roberts. But over the years, the Roberts have never treated you as an outsider."
Hendrix sneered without saying anything, letting his cold and intimidating aura present itself naturally.
Trent knew he didn't sound convincing, so he took a long sigh and continued, "Johannes, your father was adopted. He's a natural businessman, and he was grateful to your grandfather for raising him. He has always been a capable person. Your mother's family and the Roberts have always been close, and the children from both families often hung out together. So naturally, your mother liked your father, and both families approved of the marriage. It's just that your father didn't care much about these things, so your grandfather took matters into his own hands and set the wedding date forthem."
"After that, everyone went on with their lives. One day, your father's biological family came to Ucrebury. Your grandfather was in the military and was clueless about business. However, the Roberts Group was growing because of your father. For the sake of our ancestors and the family business, your grandfather made the only mistake in his life. He secretly hid the truth from your father and sent him abroad. Instead, I became the substitute for the DNA test. The results of the DNA test were obviously not as expected, and in the end, they were not able to reunite as a family."
Hendrix's expression turned grim. "And then?"
What he wanted to know was why Johannes hated him so much.
Trent was immersed in the past as he spoke. When he heard Hendrix, his eyes suddenly lit up as he stood up impatiently and looked down at us. "That's all I have to say. The Roberts owed him, but not you. Tell him that we raised his son for him and have repaid our debt."
