My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 1926

"Well..." Wynn fretted as he looked at his dirty hands and pretended that he wasn't fit for the task. "My hands are dirty... She has to give it to you..."

Irvin, who had remained silent all this while, suddenly interjected, "Mr. Roberts, you have a close relationship with your son. It seems that you and your wife are on good terms as well."

Hendrix's eyes flashed with a gloomy chill, and he responded with a sneer, "Well, you and Miss Reid's relationship seems quite ordinary."

Irvin remained calm, but added, "I didn't expect that you would have so much time and energy to manage the family affairs of others."

Hendrix's face darkened and his eyes clouded over with rage. "I can't be compared with you who makes others' affairs your concern."

Irvin straightened his back immediately and said with a smile, "Mr. Roberts, you are so eloquent with your words."

"As you are," Hendrix retorted calmly, then turned to look at the child. There was not even the slightest waver in his tone, but his voice was very soft as he asked, "Have you had your fill?"

Wynn had probably witnessed a lot of similar occasions. Noticing that something amiss with the atmosphere, he reluctantly put down the cutlery in his hands and replied, "Yes."

"Let's go. I'm afraid we'd upset someone if we stay any longer," Hendrix said as he got up. He took

Wynn's tiny hand and said his goodbyes politely, "Thank you for your hospitality."

After the both of them left, I asked Irvin, "Do you have a grudge against Hendrix?"

The last time they met, the two of them had been rather harmonious. However, their relationship tensed when they started living across one another as neighbors.

It was just a meal. They did not have to be so sharp-tongued.

The most important thing to note was that Irvin, who was always gentle and courteous, was angered just then. How unusual.

Upon hearing that, Irvin returned to his humble self and assured me with a faint smile, "That's not true. You think too much. Let's continue eating."

He obviously did not want to continue talking about this.

This just proved that there was an irreconcilable past between him and Hendrix.
