I was lost in my thoughts for a moment. Irvin had finished the meeting and walked in, "What are you thinking about?"
He stood in front of me and asked me this. He lowered his gaze and looked at the contents of the page on my phone. He then smiled faintly and walked over to his desk. "Do you think it's the same person?" he asked.
His words cleared all the doubts in my heart.
I simply got up and walked over. I then sat in front of him, clicked on the picture and handed him the phone, "Don't you think we look alike?"
Six years was enough to change a person's appearance, but it could not erase the scars that it had left on the body.
Irvin crossed his legs and leaned back on his swivel chair. He stared at my face for a few seconds and then said, "You both do look alike."
His reply sounded both firm and determined. If he had answered skeptically, I could still consider it. However, because he had answered so firmly, I was rendered speechless.
Irvin was affirming my doubts but somehow denying it at the same time.
He meant that I looked similar to Arianna, but I wasn't exactly a carbon copy of her. Probably because I wasn't her, that's why he could reply so casually.
As I looked into his eyes, I suddenly realized that Irvin had never mentioned his past to me before.
Since he was once so close to "Arianna", why was he engaged to me, who happened to look just like her?
"I'm done with work for the day. I'll take you out for dinner tonight."
Before I could even consider this, Irvin had already stood up and urged me to leave.
I grabbed my phone and followed him out.
At this moment, I realized that I had gotten used to Irvin changing the subject whenever he was faced with things that he didn't want to talk about.
As we got into Irvin's car and were about to set off, a black car suddenly drove up and blocked our way. Luckily, Irvin was able to hit the brakes just in time.
"Beep!" Irvin was very restrained. He honked and motioned for them to let him pass.
