My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 2058

She held her out in front of the child, but the child didn't show any signs of wanting to accept her gift.

I carefully looked at the child. The moment I blinked, I found him somewhat familiar, but when I snapped out of my daze, I realized I was mistaken. Perhaps it was because of the boy's shriveled face, or the fact that he was malnourished made him stand out more. It wasn't that I recognized him, more like I recognized the look of malnourishment on him.

The lab was an orphanage but also functioned on its own rules. Survival of the fittest was the rule everywhere. This boy was probably the one trapped at the bottom of the chain and was constantly bullied by the others.

Aurelia had compassion in her heart and was sympathetic to the weak. As her mother, I was grateful.

Worried that the boy wouldn't accept her gift because he didn't have an adult's permission, I said softly, "Go ahead. It's alright."

The boy looked up at me. His eyes were incredibly calm and different from his peers. Just looking at him gave me the impression that he has been through a lot.

Lab rats that were used to receiving orders would nod in submission and express their thanks with their eyes. This boy, however, did not.

He calmly looked at me for a few seconds, then looked away and brought his hand towards Aurelia's neck all of a sudden.

Wynn immediately pulled Aurelia back and stood in front of her with his face tensed up. "What are you doing?"

Aurelia staggered before regaining her balance. After she steadied herself, she saw Wynn and the boy confronting each other. The boy's hand was still hanging in mid-air, and he had no intention of withdrawing it. His face was devoid of any emotion as well. The atmosphere was tense.

Aurelia ignored all of that. She calmly tidied up her clothes and hopped back up on the spot.

As she hopped up, something fell from her shoulder.

Aurelia picked it up and handed it to Wynn excitedly. Smiling, she reassured him, "Wynn, look, he wanted to take this for me! He wasn't trying to harm me!"
