After Shirley cried and vented out all of her frustrations she became relaxed and less tense. When we returned to the hospital, she accepted our offer to clean herself up at the nearest hotel. She got herself a change of clothes and tidied up.
It was also time to get some food. Shirley had always been the only one to feed Daniel. Today however, she immediately handed me his food plate.
The process of sustaining a life was long and continuous. There was no need for any fancy reasons, just having a connection with each other was more than enough.
When it came to saving Irvin, Shirley and I were already on the same page.
As I pushed the door open, I spotted Irvin sitting on the edge of his bed with his back facing me. Shirley always said that he looked weak, so this was a good sign.
"You're awake. Have something to eat. Your housekeeper prepared your favorite dishes and brought them over."
I walked towards the bed as I said this. I brought the table closer and laid out the dishes on it. Even though all of the food was stored in containers, the aroma of food wafted out. It smelled delicious and appetizing.
Irvin however, just sat there, showing no interest in any of it.
My guess was that he had used up most of his energy just to get up from bed and no didn't have the strength to turn around. I walked over and helped him up.
However, as soon as my hands touched his, he shook them away. His cheeks were honey and droopy. He was clearly still mad about everything that happened earlier.
I sighed and looked at him patiently, treating him like a three-year-old child. "You wouldn't be so childish as to put your health at risk over this, are you?"
"Humph!" Irvin scoffed disdainfully. "You've a worse memory than I do. I'm the kind of person who would do anything to achieve my goals, aren't I?"
That left me speechless. I realized that I had to change my approach and the topic of discussion. "Okay then, it's obvious you're determined and strong-willed. But your body is an asset to your perseverance. Eating will help your cause and provide you with nourishment. This will keep your
'asset' going for even longer, don't you think?"
