Aaron patted me on the shoulder. "Be strong. There will be a tough battle ahead. I'm going to pick up Emma and Dunn so that we can watch out for each other."
He wasn't just my brother, he was also Emma's husband and Dunn's father. Every second he spent with me increased the risk his wife and son would be in.
Knowing that I couldn't be so selfish, I opened the door and got out of the car with a smile.
As the door closed, Aaron rolled down the window and stuck his head out to comfort me, "I'll be back in an hour. If you can't sleep, make some supper to kill some time."
I smiled wider and nodded seriously. "Okay."
I watched as his car turned around and drove off as its headlights faded away from the gate. I then felt incredibly lucky. I must have saved the universe in my past life to have Aaron as a brother.
With him, even if things were hopeless, everything didn't seem so bad.
Humans were magical creatures. We would be fine no matter how much abuse we suffered. So long as our spirit wasn't defeated, then we would be happy.
I wrapped my coat tightly around my body and took a deep breath. I finally took one last peek at Aaron's car and then felt ready to go into the house.
The moment I lifted up my foot, a huge crash broke out throughout the night sky. I widened my eyes in an instant and ran towards the gate.
"Aaron, you'd better be safe! Please! Oh please!"
The second before the iron gate was shut, I slipped out from the gap. Several security guards saw what had happened and immediately called for backup in their walkie-talkies. "Hello, can you hear me? I need people at the main gate. Mrs. Robert had gone out alone. Come quickly!"
I couldn't care less of the dangers that were hidden away in the dark night as I followed the blaring sound of the car alarm. I ran towards the red taillight under the shade of the forest.
