He paused and aggressively reached over to make sure that I was looking him in the eye. "Are you not angry because you think me unnecessary, or is it because you find me disdainful?"
I was stunned by what he said.
He continued to stare hard at me as he asked, "Do you keep thinking that I would protect Andrea because you don't actually think of me as your husband who would help you with your problems, who would stand by your side?"
I pursed my lips and did not speak. I just kept looking at him.
After a pause, I said, "No!"
Andrea was nothing but a responsibility to him. Even though he was aware of a lot of things, he would not still be able to completely ignore her because of Casper.
Moreover, now that people knew that both Andrea and I were childless, they probably thought that things had finally gotten even, and that I would probably finally feel relieved about things.
They probably thought that I should no longer hate nor hold a grudge against Andrea.
From a bystander's point of view, it was easy to think of this as something that was done and dusted.
Hendrix sneered. "You have never treated me like the child's father, nor have your ever cared about me even as a married couple. When you lost your child, Irvin was the one you depended on, and now you've got Aaron's help when you need it. Basically, anytime you have a problem, you would never come to me for help. What the hell am I to you, Ariana? An insignificant piece of toy?"
I felt like laughing as I looked at him. "Hendrix, you are the one who cares so much about Andrea, and you're the one who can't let go of her. When sh*t happened to me, you weren't there for me, yet you came to Andrea's aid anytime she needed you. I'm not God, so I can't really say for sure what you are to me."
I had already been very tolerant with him about how much he cared for Andrea. I didn't even blame him for not getting angry about what happened to our child. As a matter of fact, I had been so tolerant that when Andrea needed him, I would persuade him to go and take care of her. I did all of this, yet somehow, he still wasn't satisfied.
