After a long time, Minnie came up and saw me squatting on the ground. She was at a loss for words when she saw me. She could not help but sigh, "Ah, you both..."
"Minnie, I want to be left alone!" I yelled, exhausted beyond belief. I got up, left the study, went straight into the bedroom, and locked the door.
I had been lying bed in a daze until midnight, when I was suddenly woken up by a nightmare.
I noticed that there was no one around. I got up and poured myself a glass of water. I looked at the time and saw that it was three in the morning. Even if I went back to bed, I probably would not be able to fall back asleep.
I hadn't eaten anything for dinner. So, I went downstairs and found that Minnie had left some food in the kitchen for me to eat. However, after taking a few bites, I couldn't stomach them anymore.
When I went back upstairs, I subconsciously took a peek in the study. There was no one there, and everything in the room that was broken had been cleaned up.
It seemed that Hendrix did not return all night. When I got back to the bedroom, I read the e-mail sent by the Fantasia Company.
It didn't take long for the weather to get cold. The second snowfall in Jarold City had arrived just as predicted.
The whole yard was now covered with snow. Someone in the neighborhood had already begun shoveling them away to prevent it from causing any traffic disruptions.
When Minnie saw that I was already awake, she paused for a moment before saying, "The year is almost up. Many people have started buying New Year goods and putting up decorations. Arianna, let's go out for a walk after eating and see what we need to buy on the way."
I smiled and rejected her offer, "I have something to do in the afternoon, so I can't go. Did Hendrix book a ticket back to Ucrebury for you?"
Minnie's children were all in Ucrebury, and she would stay with them every New Year. It was okay in the past, and if I were not with Carol, then I would be with Dalton.
Now that the two of them had passed on, things had become much colder and lonelier. It felt like there was nothing to celebrate.
I didn't know what had happened with Monique either. Thinking of this, I couldn't help but feel the urge to call Ian, but I put that idea on hold since it was still early.
I simply looked at Minnie and added, "I'm going to the company in a moment. Hendrix isn't here, so you don't have to make breakfast for us."
She looked like she still had something to say, but I already grabbed for the keys in one swift move and went out.
Work at the Granger Group started at nine in the morning. Thus, I had to go early. I waited in the office for a while before I went to find the person in charge of the Fantasia Company for a work assignment.
