My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 497

I nodded. I took a breath and said, "Doctor Saunders, can we talk?"

He frowned and raised his hand to take a glimpse at the watch on his wrist. He raised his eyebrows, "Are you sure you want to talk to me at this time?"

It was eleven at night, so it still wasn't too late in the night.

I nodded and said, "It won't take long, just wanted to have a few words with you."

He curled his lips and walked to the living room. He sat down and put the medical kit in his hands away. He looked at me and said, "Sure!"

I sat down in front of him. I handed him a glass of water and asked, "Doctor Saunders, have you seen Monique recently?"

He raised his eyebrows and set eyes on me in a deep and distant way. He knitted his brows, "No, what's wrong?"

I felt very upset and added, "She's not here anymore!"

As I spoke, my hands trembled but I still stared at him seriously. I noticed that his hands too was trembling as he held the glass of water in his hands.

Afterwards, he pursed his lips, glanced at me and replied, "She's not here anymore...what does that mean?"

"She's dead!" I felt a lump in my throat and lowered my head subconsciously to hold back the tears in my eyes.

He gently placed the glass of water on the table. He narrowed his eyes and asked deeply and quietly, "How did she die?"

"A car accident, and two lives were gone!" I lied. I didn't want to tell him about the child. Since it was Monique's request, I would continue keeping it a secret.

He pursed his lips and his eyes were particularly dark. "Two lives were gone?"

I nodded. "She was pregnant."

He stared at me, his eyes a dark, bottomless pit. "Was it my child?"

"Yes, it was!" I replied.

He stopped talking. A long silence ensued. Cold air weighted down in the living room, and I couldn't help but shudder.

After a long time, he peered at me without any expression on his face. He got up and looked at me coldly. "Is this what you wanted to talk to me about?"

I was stunned for a moment and nodded. "Yes!"
