Ian send a glare my way before greeting Hendrix with an awkward smile, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Roberts."
Hendrix greeted back, "Hello."
Hendrix's aura was so dispassionate that it was difficult for me to get close to him. Therefore, Ian went to take care of Anne after greeting him.
I grabbed Hendrix's hand and followed Ian into Anne's room. The little fellow had drunk powdered milk and was now asleep.
Hendrix gazed at the baby and was lost in thought. He raised his hand and wanted to touch the baby, but almost instantly withdrew it.
Perhaps all men were like that. They didn't know what to do when facing a newborn baby.
Ian took Anne's used clothes and brought them to the laundry room. Then, he looked at me and asked, "Do you still need to take medicine today?"
I felt a little awkward being asked that question, but as soon as my gaze fell on Anne's tiny body, I couldn't help but nod, "I do."
He glanced at Hendrix and noticed that Hendrix's gaze was completely focused on the baby. He couldn't help but lift his eyebrows. Then, he left the room.
Only Hendrix and I were left in the room. He examined the child with care and focus. After a long time, he turned to me and asked, "Is she Josiah's child?"
I was shocked to hear his question as I didn't expect that he would say such a thing all of a sudden. I shook my head and said, "No..."
Seeing his deep gaze, I couldn't help but lower my head. But I didn't tell him what I wanted to say.
"Does he know?" He continued, his slender fingers gently landing on Anne's cheeks.
"He doesn't!" Hendrix had most likely figured it out. Even if I wanted to continue hiding this truth, I was likely to fail.
He nodded. He looked particularly handsome when he gazed at the child with a grin. "Tell Mr. Shelley to get ready later. Well take her to the registration office and apply her residence permit. Well take her back home to meet with all the elders of the Roberts family during the New Year."
I stared blankly at him, surprised and speechless. When he noticed that I was lost in thought, he tightened his lips and asked, "What's wrong?"
