It felt like my senses left me for a brief second. I remembered that Monique also liked to wear high heels. At the time, we had no money, so the high heels she bought were always too high and would always hurt her feet. When she was in pain, I would buy her a pair of slippers from a roadside stall. Then, I would laugh at her over and over again as I forced her to change into them. She would obey but complain that the slippers did not match her style.
In a blink of an eye, this seemed to have happened a very long time ago, even though sometimes, it didn't feel like this at all.
I got up and looked at her, "Sit here and wait for me!"
There were many shops in the mall, and it didn't take long for me to return with a shoebox. I handed it to her with a smile. "I saw your size just now; you're a size 37, so this should suit you."
She froze for a moment before she reached for the box. After opening it, she looked at me with a dumbfounded gaze. "Did you buy this especially for me?"
I nodded. "I don't know what kind of style you like, but it should go with your clothes. It is not a popular brand, but it's wearable."
I couldn't bear to buy her shoes that cost thousands of dollars. After I came back from Hovell, I was still out of work. I did not use the card Hendrix gave me, so every purchase I made was my own savings. I planned to look for another part-time job after enrolling in grad school so that I wouldn't have any problem with my daily expenses.
She changed out of her shoes with a smile. "Arianna, do you know that you are the first woman who bought me shoes? My brother has no fashion sense which is why I never asked him to buy any for me. So, I bought everything myself. When I met Zachary, he's just like my brother. You are the only one who has ever bought shoes for me ever since I was a kid."
I smiled faintly. The parents of the Moore Family seemed to have lived abroad for a long while, and Freya was the youngest daughter of the family. I did not know much about the Moore Family.
The only thing I knew was that Freya and Pedro were siblings. I knew nothing about the rest.
"Wear it first. It is fine as long as your feet won't hurt when you walk," I said. When I looked up, I saw Hendrix, dressed in black and looking slender like jade. With his handsome facial features, he was particularly eye-catching when walking in the mall.
"What a bad man. Luring girls over, how conspicuous," Freya muttered.
