As soon as they sat down, Nerissa said, "It's tough finding authentic Mexican food in Jarold City, but this restaurant is not bad. You'll know soon enough."
As she ordered the dishes, she said to me, "Before coming to Jarold City, I really liked the Mexican restaurant around Ucrebury University. After coming here, I never go there anymore. Every time I crave Mexican food, I'll go around the city looking for it. I found that there aren't many authentic Mexican restaurants in Jarold City after searching for years. But this restaurant's actually pretty good."
I could sense how homesick she was from what she said.
She moved to Jarold City when she turned eighteen. Her memories of home slowly faded as she grew older, until she only had her childhood memories left.
It was like how I liked desserts. I remembered how Grandma always had different kinds of candies in her pocket. Whenever I felt upset or cried, her candy could make all my sadness vanish.
Now, the people in our memories were either gone or had left us. The only thing that we could do was to reminisce on the sweet memories.
When the waiter served the food, I got up and said, "Aunt Nerissa, I'm going to wash my hands."
Our hands had definitely been dirtied after a day of shopping. She got up and went to wash her hands with me.
On the way back, I headed to the washroom while she went straight back to our table.
As I was returning to my seat, I saw a familiar face whom I had not seen for a long time. It was Andrea.
"Aunt Nerissa, I've been busy these days, so I haven't been able to visit you. You seem to have lost some weight," Andrea remarked.
There were two strangers beside her whom I wasn't acquainted with. They were probably her friends.
Nerissa was not someone who would directly offend someone. She nodded and smiled faintly, "You're such a sweet talker. It matters little whether I gained or lost weight. Nothing has changed about me."
Andrea smiled lightly, "I will pay you a visit when I get the time to."
The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly.
Things felt harmonious.
