He appeared with several strong men behind him, eyeing me sarcastically, "Miss Reid, you should take better care of yourself. Although Mr. Kaleb is cautious of the Milton family, it doesn't mean that he's actually afraid of them. If you don't rein it in, he might change his mind."
He looked at the men behind him as he talked in that unknown language of theirs. Then, he pointed at the glass door Naomi was in. My eyes widened and I howled, "What are you doing?"
He looked at me and sneered. "Miss Reid, do you think that Mr. Kaleb sent you here just to enjoy the scenery?"
"What do you mean?" I looked at him, my face dark.
Another sneer. "Although we can't hurt you now, we can still make you watch your friend suffer. You're a pretty loyal friend, right?"
At that moment, I paled as I looked at the men walking towards the glass-framed room.
I grabbed Tiago tightly and begged, "Please, don't hurt them. They're innocent, they..."
He jeered, "It's the same with Yahya - she took care of you for so many days without error but was sent here because you were half an hour late. Do you think she's innocent?"
The Yahya he was talking to must've been the woman who had just been sent in.
I had no answer, but when I looked at Naomi and the others, it filled me with enough anxiety to speak.
I said, "Mr. Tiago, it was my fault. Please don't hurt them, I..."
"You'd take their place?" He shot back as his gaze fell on me. He laughed insidiously, and it was clear that he harbored malicious intent.
My body reacted instinctively. I shook my head
This had him laughing out loud. "Look at you, Miss Reid. You can act as Mother Teresa when it's not your life on the line, but when it comes to the real deal, you hesitate. Do you know what human nature is? It's this."
My face turned ashen, and I was completely at a loss for words, for thoughts. Admittedly, he was right.
