He frowned. It was obvious that he had no plans to tell me. After some deliberation, he looked at me and said, "Miss Reid, you need to rest well!"
He attempted to leave after saying that. Feeling anxious, I threw the glass on the ground and said, "If you plan to threaten Hendrix with my life, you should at least tell me what's going on. I'd like to die with more understanding of my situation."
He stopped walking towards me, looking more than displeased. His eyes fell on the smashed glass on the ground. "Miss Reid, you should value your life more!"
I took a deep breath as I looked at him, "Mr. Westin, I know you're not from Myanway. It doesn't matter why you became Kaleb's subordinate, but there's a line to everything. You've committed so many crimes. Aren't you afraid that some kind of retribution will catch up one day?"
He sneered and looked at me as if he were looking at a fool as the nurse came in to clean up the glass fragments.
He found a seat and sat down, his tanned skin almost shimmering under the light. He looked straight at me, his gaze intimidating.
After a while, he said, "I don't believe in God, so I don't believe in that. Don't wish such ill will on us. Mr. Becker and Mr. Roberts have a personal grudge against each other. You being there was part of the plan, and it was expected. Mr. Becker already had this planned after what you said to Tiago in the car."
"Initially we thought that you were just Sebastian's woman, which made sense since the Milton family was looking for you. But we had to do another background check on you when you told us that the Roberts Family, Reid Family, and the Moore Family in Jarold City would protect you. Although there wasn't much information on that, it was good enough for us to set this trap up and escape unscathed."
"I want to know if there's bad blood between Kaleb and Hendrix." My face was looking a little pale.
He leaned back into his chair and said lazily, "It's not as simple as bad blood. Dalton and Kaleb's father were comrades. One went back home to enjoy his old age in peace, while the other stayed at the Myanway border. The Roberts Family made use of their patriotic achievements to make a good living back home, but Mr. Kaleb's father wasn't living quite as well at the border. For the sake of his wife and son, he had to walk on the edge of the law to make a living. But he didn't expect that Dalton and Hendrix would go to the border to visit him, and to accidentally expose his shady deeds."
I frowned. I had heard about Master Roberts going to the border. He and Hendrix went there once to visit his army mates. However, they had encountered an ambush while they were on their way back. That was also when they met Casper and Andrea.
It was also because of that incident that Casper had entrusted his own sister to Hendrix after his death. Throughout our years of marriage, Hendrix and I had also encountered countless problems because of Andrea's existence.
However, I didn't expect that I would ever get involved in this again.
Looking at him, I frowned. "Did something happen to Mr. Kaleb's father?"
He nodded. "He was a war hero, but had taken less than favorable steps in life because he didn't have a choice. When it came down to it, his punishment was always going to be more severe than an ordinary citizen. In order not to implicate his wife and children, he committed suicide."
I pursed my lips and didn't know what to say. When I thought of the necklace that Hendrix had used so much money to exchange for at the nightclub, I couldn't help asking, "What was the deal with that necklace?"
"Dalton and Hendrix had crossed a lot of people who relied on illegal businesses to make a living when they returned to the country, so someone had secretly planned to assassinate them. Back then, when they were being hunted down, they sold everything they had on them in order to return from the border. That necklace belonged to Hendrix's grandmother, and Dalton always had it with him. When Mr. Kaleb found out about it later, he ordered someone to bring the necklace back at a high price in order to lure Hendrix to Myanway."
