Naomi said when we met up, "She seems to have broken something. She should see a doctor."
Rowane's eyes were red as if she was trying to hold back her tears, I recovered from my surprise and spoke, "Take her to the hospital. I've got work later so I can't spare the time."
I'd been talking to Hendrix.
Naomi looked at me, irritated. She knitted her brows, "I'm free. I'll send her there!"
"There's no need for that. It's not that serious. I can go by myself." Rowane said as her voice hitched. She was sulking.
Hendrix looked at me. I reached out and pulled on Naomi's sleeve, "No, you're coming with me. Mr. Roberts will send her!"
Naomi frowned. "Mr. Roberts?" She then looked at Hendrix.
After a moment, Hendrix shifted his gaze from me. He then picked up Rowane and left without a word.
"F*ck!" Naomi cursed. She looked at me almost crying, "Arianna, are you nuts? That's your man. Why would you push him away like this? Are you crazy?"
I was a little embarrassed and said softly, "There's nothing between us. Let's go back to the Milton Group."
"What do you mean, 'nothing between you two'? Are you blind? Can't you see the way Hendrix was looking at you? Why do you have to push him away? You just need to clear things up. You don't have to hurt him like this. Arianna, you're terrible."
She stomped away angrily, and didn't wait for me.
I was a little stunned at her vehemence. I caught up to her and pulled her back to face me. "Naomi, this is my business. You don't have to be so angry!"
She stopped and I saw her face. Her usually lively eyes were filled with disappointment. "Yes, this is your business. I'm an outsider, so I don't have to be so angry. But Arianna, people's hearts are made of flesh and blood. Do you know why I'm angry?"
"When we met in Myanway, and we escaped without much need for words, I knew that you were smart. After, when we were in the forest until you found a way to save us from Kaleb, I felt that you were righteous and brave. We see the world the same way. When we came home, I decided that I had to be your best friend."
"I am angry because I suddenly feel that you are not who I thought you were. I am not angry with you. I am angry with myself. You never saw me as a friend, did you?"
I shook my head. "No, that's not true!"
She snorted, "No? Arianna, you have to open up your heart to be close to someone. You never loved Hendrix, nor treated us as friends. To put it bluntly, right from the start, we have been mere acquaintances in your life."
Seeing that I was shocked speechless, she went on, saying, "In fact, you don't know what is it to have a friend at all. From your point of view, as long as two people can talk to each other, they are friends, including Dahlia. You put me in the same position as that hateful woman. And Hendrix, if you truly loved him, it would've been impossible for you to ignore how he's cared for you all this time. Even now, he resisted you pushing Rowane towards him, but you still insisted. He had been compromising all this while, and you took it all for granted. Do you still think that you are doing the right thing?"
