Maeve stood there and watched Gaby with a look that said, “Let’s see how you’ll handle this.” 

Wendy and the others hadn’t gotten a satisfactory answer from her earlier, so they had to turn to Gaby. 

Now, it was up to her to explain the situation 

such blatant favoritism would unsettle anyone. 

Gaby faced the group and said, “This is a decision made by the company. You have no right to interfere, and I don’t need to explain everything to you.”
