A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 559

He spent a long time raging on the phone, and Fairfax didn’t get a word in edgewise. Which was for the best. Faced with this powerless situation, he had nothing to say anyway.

By the time Fairfax walked into the house, Harley had already called Starla’s phone.

“When you and Fairfax wanted to get married, none of us approved,” Harley’s voice was sharp and accusatory. “But once you joined the Yelchin family, we gave you all the dignity and respect you were due. What is the meaning of this?”

“What dignity did the Yelchins give me?” Starla scoffed. The idea that they had bestowed any sort of respect upon her was laughable. “The dignity I have, I gave myself. It has nothing to do with your family.”

If she had lived in the main Yelchin estate after marrying Fairfax, she wouldn’t have had a shred of dignity. To hear him say that now was utterly ridiculous.

“Have you forgotten what your life was like before you married Fairfax? And what it became after?” Harley pressed.

“I would have been just fine without marrying him,” she retorted.

“You’ve forgotten where you came from,” Harley’s voice was severe, a clear reminder that she was just a girl from an orphanage.

“Ha! Where I came from?” Starla’s tone turned sharp. “Perhaps you have forgotten where you came from. What did you do when you first took over the Yelchin Group? What methods did you use to elevate the company to the next level? Wasn’t that your past? Your origins are far more sordid than mine. I may have started from the bottom, but at least my past is clean. Can you say the same, Mr. Yelchin?”

Every word was a pointed accusation that seemed to strike a nerve. Harley fell silent on the other end.
