A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 605

"Faraday is dead. How am I supposed to prove it's his?" Brinley argued. "Even if we run a DNA comparison with Fairfax or Darleen, it won't be one hundred percent conclusive."

While genetic matching could provide strong indicators, it couldn't definitively confirm Faraday was the father without his direct sample.

Starla let out a dry chuckle. "Looks like you've done your homework. Well, if you can't prove it, then my hands are tied."

Did she really think she could outsmart her? There was zero chance Starla would lift a finger to save the child if it wasn't Faraday's.

"No, you can't be this cruel to an innocent baby!" Brinley pleaded.

"You're welcome to keep wasting time," Starla replied, her tone turning to absolute ice.

Her complete indifference shattered Brinley's last hope. A paternity test was impossible. Fairfax already suspected the baby wasn't his brother's and refused to help. Darleen was absolutely convinced the child was illegitimate. Brinley was already walking on thin ice within the Yelchin household. If she lost the baby, she'd have no foothold with the Fowlers either. And with Starla refusing to help her mother in Yoran Country, panic was fully setting in.

"I'm begging you. Please, just save the baby," she cried, throwing away whatever pride she had left. This was her final lifeline.

Starla remained silent.

"I was wrong about everything. I admit it, I was wrong," Brinley sobbed.

"Funny how begging for your child brings out a lot more sincerity than begging for your mother," Starla noted.

The previous apologies had felt hollow, but this time, Starla could tell Brinley meant it.
