A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 646

Thinking of Starla's terrifying upward mobility only made Darleen's chest tighten further. She had treated the girl like absolute trash, and now that same girl was pulling the strings of their destruction.

Xenia's face paled at the mention of Herbert.

Noticing her daughter's heartbreak, Darleen sighed and patted her hand. "You need to give up on Herbert," she said softly, despite knowing how much it hurt.

She knew Xenia had always harbored a massive crush on the man, but what good did that do now? Herbert was completely captivated by Starla.

"I heard what Fairfax told her the other day!" Xenia argued defensively. "He said Herbert traded her to Kael Shipley at the Hoggart Group. He doesn't actually love her!"

Darleen paused, remembering the rumor. It made perfect sense. They had been trying to figure out how Starla had managed to connect with a powerhouse like Kael. If Herbert had orchestrated it as a transaction, all the puzzle pieces fit.

"Ha! Kael is married!"

"No wonder the Farley family hasn't made any official move. If she's just a bargaining chip for a married man, her ending is going to be tragic!"

Xenia's eyes lit up. "Exactly! If Kael's wife finds out about whatever is going on between them, Starla is finished!"

"I've heard the rumors," Xenia continued eagerly. "Kael might look like a perfect gentleman from Yoran Country, but he's terrified of his wife. She's incredibly ruthless!"

"So if she finds out, not even Herbert can protect Starla?" Xenia's spirits soared at the thought.

Herbert was powerful, sure, but his empire relied heavily on the Hoggart Group. Kael was a top executive there. If Herbert couldn't afford to offend Kael, he certainly couldn't afford to offend Kael's terrifying wife.

Darleen nodded sharply. "Right. Why didn't I think of this sooner? I've been too stressed to see clearly!"
