A Widow's Poison A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 890

Fairfax was momentarily speechless.

"You say that as if you're completely innocent," Starla added dryly.

"Then will you—"

"You have the power to plant Seymour right outside my door. You clearly have the power to save your own sister."

Why drag her into it? Right now, Starla was entirely paralyzed. Asking her to do anything felt like moving mountains. She didn't want to do it, and she wouldn't.

"Your brother has an army guarding her. My men can't even get close," Fairfax explained.

If his men could get to her, he wouldn't be calling Starla. But Starla was different. She had no real conflict with Susanna back in Marina City. If she visited Susanna under the guise of friendship, Yardley likely wouldn't stop her. And she could use that opening to slip Susanna out.

"You really don't understand my situation in Yoran right now, do you?" Starla asked softly.

Fairfax went quiet.

"I'm basically blind. I can't see anything clearly. I don't know what you and Herbert are plotting, and I don't know what the Hoggart family truly wants with me.

"You calling me right now... it just makes me suspect what role Susanna is actually playing in this twisted game. Asking me to save her feels like just another way for you to use me!"

"Is that really what you think?" Fairfax asked, his voice tight.

"That is my reality right now!"

It was a perfect dead end. From the moment she stepped foot back in Yoran, she had trapped herself in a suffocating cage. No matter who spoke to her now, she instinctively assumed they were trying to manipulate her. She desperately wanted to break free, but she was completely powerless.

Fairfax heard the agonizing helplessness in her voice. He knew exactly what kind of psychological torture she was enduring.

"I told you, come to Cyrus Sea with Seymour. I will protect you! It's your only way out."

This time, he meant every word. He genuinely wanted to shield her from the crossfire.
