Just then, Marjorie pushed her way through the crowd. From what she gathered from the other neighbors, she had a rough idea of what had happened.
Seeing the chaotic scene, Marjorie's temples throbbed. How did her mother end up in a feud with the Holt family?
"Mom, what are you doing? Let's go home."
Marjorie was mortified. She had originally come out for some fresh air and, seeing a fight, had come to watch the spectacle, only to find it was her own mother at the center of it.
Now they were famous throughout the entire complex.
And it was with the Holt family, of all people. She still wanted to get back together with West. If their families were at odds, how could she ever approach him?
Marjorie silently blamed Abigail for being so thoughtless and not considering the bigger picture, not thinking about her interests at all. As a result, Marjorie's tone with Abigail was less than gentle.
When Abigail saw her daughter arrive, she felt as though her support had arrived. She immediately grabbed Marjorie's arm and complained.
"Marjorie, she, and all of them, they bullied me! They not only slapped me but kicked me too. Call the police right now and have them arrested!"
Grace, seeing how Abigail completely ignored her own slanderous accusations, shot back.
"I should have hit you harder. It's your own fault for having such a foul mouth and spreading lies. I'm warning you, if you dare say such things again, I'll hit you again."
Marjorie didn't know what to say. She knew exactly what her mother was like.
She knew even better that her mother had always held a grudge against the Holt family.
If her mother hadn't said something truly awful, the Holts would not have provoked her.
For someone as gentle as Grace to resort to violence, it was clear how deeply her mother must have offended them.
In an attempt to curry favor with the Holt family, Marjorie had no choice but to play the role of the "impartial mediator."
"Mom, if you hadn't said those things, why would they have hit you? Let's go home. We can talk about this when we get back."
