Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 271

Jensen adopted a look of profound, shared grief, a mask of empathy for the family. He tapped his finger on the desk.

"The current situation is that both mother and child are suffering from postpartum infections. We'll need to run further tests to determine the exact cause."

Seeing the raw pain on the man's face, Jensen continued, "I called you in to prepare you. Postpartum infections are very dangerous. I will do everything I can. For now, go handle the payment, and we'll discuss the results tomorrow morning."

The man didn't dare interrupt, afraid of distracting Dr. Parnell. He sensed an unspoken message in the doctor's words.

As expected, Dr. Parnell spoke again. "The mother's immune system is stronger; we might be able to pull her through. But the child… your family needs to be prepared. I just examined her, and her condition is extremely poor. I'm afraid…"

Jensen let the sentence hang in the air. The man understood. This was likely why Dr. Parnell had called him in alone.

He buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking with soft sobs. The baby had just entered the world, only to be on the verge of leaving it. She was the child his wife had carried for ten grueling months. How could he possibly give up?

He lowered his hands, his eyes bloodshot, his expression set with a heavy decision. "Dr. Parnell, no matter what, please do everything you can to save my wife… and my child."

Even if there was only a one percent chance, he couldn't let go.

The baby hadn't even opened her eyes to see the world, to see her mother and father. Surely she didn't want to leave either.

Noticing the man's determined expression, Jensen glanced at Madonna Dawson, who quietly slipped out of the room.

Jensen let out a heavy sigh. "Yes, rest assured. I'm a doctor, and I will of course do my utmost to save my patients. However, you should go back and speak with your family. Prepare them. The chances of saving the child are incredibly slim."
