Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 287

Wendy leaned back against a pillow, her injured leg propped up on the bed. She felt a little overwhelmed by Finch's attentive care.

"It's fine," she murmured, lowering her gaze, unable to meet his eyes.

The room fell silent again, the only sound the soft breathing of two people. A charged, romantic energy began to fill the air.

She was about to say something, anything, to break the awkward silence.

But when she looked up, she found herself caught in a pair of deep, affectionate eyes.

Their gazes locked.

Wendy's face flushed a deep red. She quickly looked down, trying to hide the storm of emotions raging inside her.

Under the bright lights of the room, his tall frame seemed to close out everything else.

He knelt, bringing his face level with hers. He looked at her, his expression serious as he confessed his feelings.

"I like you. I'm sorry, I know this is sudden, but I can't stop thinking about you."

His unexpected confession left Wendy's mind a complete blank.

She had thought her relationship with Finch might develop, but she never imagined it would happen so quickly.

Her heart was in turmoil.

What should she do? How was she supposed to respond to this?

She admitted she felt a little spark for him, but she had wanted to wait, to see. Now she was afraid that rejecting him would mean losing this chance forever.

Her mind replayed all her previous interactions with him.

They didn't spend much time together, but every encounter seemed special.

The time it was raining, he had pulled his car over to drive her home.

When she got out, he had even gallantly held an umbrella for her.

Knowing her back was sore, he had brought her a special support brace.

Many mornings, he had left breakfast on her desk, bringing some for everyone in the secretarial department so she would feel comfortable accepting it.

Several times when he was driving for a ride-share service after work, he had given her a ride home, claiming it was "on his way."
