Natalie's brow furrowed, a faint sense of unease creeping over her.
She tried calling Janina's phone directly. The cold, mechanical voice on the other end made her heart sink.
[Sorry, the number you have dialed has been switched off.]
"Janina's phone is off. She never turns it off. It's only eight. Something's not right," Natalie said, her voice tinged with anxiety as she looked up at Grace.
Grace's face instantly went pale, and she reflexively tightened her grip. "Maybe the battery died? Right, she brought an assistant with her..."
Before she could finish, Natalie was already contacting Maggie.
In Janina's life, aside from her family, her closest friends were Maggie, Melody Leigh, and Wendy Clifford.
They were the only hope of finding out what had happened to Janina.
"Mom, try not to panic. I'm going to contact Janina's friends and ask them to help me find the assistant's contact information," Natalie said, forcing a calm she didn't feel.
Grace's mind was racing with fear. She'd felt on edge all afternoon, the kind of uneasy dread she couldn't explain.
Natalie called Maggie and asked if she knew the number for Janina's assistant.
Thank goodness Janina had mentioned she was taking an assistant with her; otherwise, they wouldn't have known who to even look for.
Of course, Maggie didn't know. She had no dealings with DL Group and had never even met Janina's assistant.
"I'm not sure, but don't worry. I'll ask around and call you right back," she said, her own concern for Janina growing.
After hanging up, Maggie immediately sent a message to 'The Graces' Chat.' The last messages in the group were from that afternoon.
Maggie worked fast. One phone call to a friend with connections to DL's upper management was all it took to get the assistant's contact information.
Maggie immediately forwarded the number to Natalie and called the assistant herself.
The assistant confirmed she hadn't gone to the airport with Janina. Moreover, the messages she had sent to Janina had gone unanswered.
Upon hearing this news, a terrible premonition fell over Maggie and the entire Holt family.
