The pitch-black room suddenly flooded with light, revealing Janina Holt’s kidnappers for the first time.
The harsh glare made Janina flinch, an instinctual jolt running through her body.
She curled up like a frightened kitten, trying to shrink back into the protective embrace of the darkness.
Once her eyes adjusted to the light, she cautiously looked up. Two elongated shadows stretched across the floor, moving slowly and deliberately toward her.
The shadows danced with their every step.
Her gaze traveled upward, landing on two men, one tall and one short.
The taller man had a cold, severe face and somber eyes. It was the driver from the van.
He stood with his arms crossed, looking down at her, radiating an aura that sent a chill down her spine.
It didn't take a genius to figure out that the shorter man beside him was the one who had drugged her.
Janina racked her brain, searching for any memory of these two men. She was certain she’d never seen them before.
The shorter man’s expression was utterly sinister.
His narrowed eyes were filled with a venomous malice, laced with a strange, unsettling smile.
It was a terrifying smile, like a hunter who had just captured his prize prey.
His eyes gleamed with the cruel, greedy satisfaction of success.
An icy dread crept over Janina, making her skin crawl.
She subconsciously looked down to check her body. Her clothes were still intact, which brought a small measure of relief. At least this wasn't a sexual assault.
That left only one other possibility: money.
The effects of the drug hadn't fully worn off yet, and a wave of weakness washed over her.
She cursed silently. Just how much of that stuff did this bastard use on me?
She could only remember what happened before she passed out; everything after was a blank.
Clearly, these two had brought her here.
