Even though Yvonne had given him three million, he didn't think it was enough.
If the police found out, he and Dylan would have to go on the run, and three million wasn't nearly enough to disappear.
That's why he decided to try and squeeze some more out of Silvia.
But not only had the old hag cursed him out, she’d also hung up on him.
Borrowing Dylan's phone, John tried again.
The phone rang for a few seconds before someone picked up.
Fearing Silvia would block this number too, John spoke first.
"If you don't want anything to happen to Yvonne, you'd better agree to my terms." Silvia was in the middle of a bridge game with her friends.
Hearing her daughter's name, her heart leaped into her throat.
"What do you mean?"
Though drunk, John's mind was still sharp.
He let out a cold laugh. "I've got her. I'm going to 'take care of her' tonight. You wouldn't want your daughter's reputation ruined, would you? My demand isn't unreasonable. Wire me a million now, and I'll make sure this whole thing is handled cleanly."
Silvia thought he had actually kidnapped Yvonne.
She shot up from her chair, her voice tight with panic.
"What did you say? What do you want? Don't you dare do anything reckless!"
"Hmph, what I want depends entirely on you. I'm not wasting any more time. Send the money now," John snarled.
Terrified, Silvia's mind went blank.
She was confused.
She had just video-chatted with her daughter that morning, and she'd been perfectly fine.
How could she have been kidnapped so suddenly?
The man was demanding money, which meant he was likely just after a payday and wouldn't harm her daughter.
Analyzing the situation, she forced herself to calm down.
She had to stall for time, try to find out his location so the police could get the bastard.
Her expression shifted rapidly in a matter of seconds.
"Can I hear her voice?" Silvia asked, her voice trembling. "I need to be sure it's her."
