While The Tasting Room was mired in controversy and its sales plummeted, the restaurants next door and across the street seized the opportunity.
They started posting all sorts of passive-aggressive videos online, mocking the scandal.
Though they never mentioned The Tasting Room by name, it was obvious to anyone who they were talking about.
One influencer with fifty million followers even wrote an original song satirizing The Tasting Room, with his team producing a polished music video to go with it.
The video went viral instantly, even getting picked up by major international media outlets.
At this point, The Tasting Room was in dire straits.
On a street where it had once been the most popular establishment, it was now the most reviled.
The turnaround was staggering.
The impact of the incident was immense.
The day after the news broke, the relevant authorities summoned them for a talk, issued a fine and a warning, and demanded that The Tasting Room rectify the issues immediately.
West felt a profound sense of helplessness, like he'd been stabbed in the heart and then framed for doing it to himself.
Who could he turn to for justice?
Filled with indignation, West swore he would find the person who had framed The Tasting Room.
One day, as West arrived at the restaurant, he saw a large crowd gathered outside.
Men and women, all looking furious.
"There he is! Look, everyone, the black-hearted owner is here! That's the owner of The Tasting Room!" a man in the crowd yelled in a coarse voice, pointing a finger at West.
"You greedy crook! You risk people's lives for money and even get a celebrity to promote you! I'd like to rip your heart out and see if it's as black as they say!"
"My son was throwing up and had diarrhea the night after eating at your restaurant! I thought he'd just snuck some ice cream, but it turns out you were the problem! You bastard, you deserve to die a horrible death!"
More and more people began to vent their anger at West.
"My wife got acute gastroenteritis after eating at The Tasting Room! She's still in the hospital! You're going to pay for my losses!"
"If you don't compensate us for our emotional distress, I'll hang banners all over The Tasting Room and make you truly famous!"
"Damn you! You look decent enough, but you do such rotten things. Don't you have a conscience?"
West dodged quickly, and the egg splattered on the ground beside him.
His evasive action completely enraged the crowd.
"Oh, you son of a bitch! You nearly killed us, and you dare to dodge?"
With that, another projectile was thrown at West.
Just as West was about to explain, a loud, amplified voice boomed from nearby.
"Stop!"
The sound of the megaphone caught everyone's attention. They all turned to see Janina holding a bullhorn, facing the crowd.
"I understand how you all feel. But the facts haven't been established yet, and you're already so eager to condemn The Tasting Room. We're the victims of a setup here!"
She had come to talk to West, only to find him being mobbed and cursed at.
The crowd was too dense for her to push through, so she ended up buying a bullhorn for fifty dollars from a vegetable vendor across the street.
