Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 387

“Your restaurant is on the brink of closing. If we work together, I have a way to clear The Tasting Room’s name.”

Seeing West’s refusal, Marjorie had no choice but to dangle the bait. Beneath her flawless makeup, her eyes held a subtle, calculating glint.

Her goal wasn't to help The Tasting Room, but to get close to West. That was the only way to make her plan a reality.

Sure enough, at Marjorie’s words, West’s head snapped up. A complex expression crossed his face as he asked tentatively, “What way? You know The Tasting Room was framed?”

Marjorie lifted her chin. “Sit down. Let’s talk.”

After Janina got back from her trip, she’d told her family about running into Marjorie, warning them about how much she had changed and advising them to steer clear of her if they saw her.

West finally understood what Janina had meant. The Marjorie before him now was a world away from the person she used to be.

Wanting to get more information out of her, West entered the room, but he took a precaution, leaving the door wide open.

“You know who framed The Tasting Room?”

West’s directness made Marjorie laugh. “You really think highly of me. I know your character; you’d never do something like that. As for the culprit…”

Marjorie paused deliberately, then broke into a bright smile. “I have a few leads, but no hard evidence yet. I’ve already got people investigating. I’m sure we’ll have results soon.”

Once outside, her expression turned colder with each step. She clenched her fists, and upon reaching the alley, she pulled out her phone and sent a text message.

[We move tonight.]

The late October nights had a chill in the air. Even though The Tasting Room had been empty for a while, West still went to the restaurant every day, opening its doors for business. At ten o’clock at night, after the other employees had gone home, he would do a thorough check of the premises, making sure the doors and windows were locked and the utilities were off.

Finishing his inspection, West checked the time. He knew Janina was out with her friends tonight and thought about driving to pick her up. But Janina called, saying she had driven herself and would head straight home after her get-together, telling him not to come.

After hanging up, West looked up at the sky. The bright moon hung high, casting a cold light on the street below. As he got closer to the truth, a strange sense of unease washed over him, a feeling that something bad was about to happen.
