His eyes darkened as his voice choked with emotion.
"After you threw my daughter out, she couldn't find a way to survive and had to take cleaning jobs. One night, she was in a car accident… and she died. She was my only daughter. She's gone, while the person responsible is living just fine."
He had his daughter late in life, in his thirties, only to end up a parent burying his own child.
If Elena hadn't framed Fern for stealing, Fern would never have been kicked out of the Aurelius estate, and she would never have been in that car accident.
It was all Elena's fault.
She was the one who killed Fern.
Hamlin, tears streaming down his face, crawled forward a couple of steps on his knees to face Old Mr. Aurelius.
"Sir, although I hate Elena, I have always been loyal to you! She is a venomous woman! I… I was just getting rid of a pest for the Aurelius family! She does nothing all day but play mahjong. Elena is not worthy of being Mrs. Aurelius."
"Sir, please believe me. While I acted against Elena to avenge Fern, my main goal was to rid the Aurelius family of this menace!"
In Hamlin's eyes, Elena was a parasite on the Aurelius family, doing nothing but playing mahjong and either berating or ignoring the staff.
Besides, he knew the old master already disliked Elena. He thought the master would be pleased that he had removed this scourge for him.
Old Mr. Aurelius was stunned by Hamlin's twisted logic. He slammed his hand on the table.
"Who do you think you are, to act on behalf of the Aurelius family? You harmed my Aurelius blood! And to think I was just hesitant to punish you. You have disappointed me beyond words."
Seeing the utter disappointment in Old Mr. Aurelius's eyes, Hamlin knew there was no escaping his fate today.
His heart hardened. He was going to die anyway.
He might as well drag someone down with him.
He rose from the floor, his eyes icy, as if he had made a final, resolute decision. His tone was firm.
"Sir, I know you won't believe anything I say now, but there is one thing I must tell you."
