"Impossible. We've never lived together, and I've never... in front of him..."
Wendy's denial was automatic. She had never undressed in front of Finch. They hadn't even taken that final step. And they rarely took pictures together; when they did, they were always fully and properly dressed. There was no way he could have nude photos.
She knew whether she had exposed herself or not.
But her rebuttal lacked conviction. Even though she couldn't imagine how Finch got them, a part of her already believed Jamie.
Jamie let out a sudden, mocking laugh. "Then you should go home and check your bedroom and bathroom carefully for pinhole cameras."
Jamie's voice was faint and weak, but the words were enough to turn Wendy to stone.
Wendy staggered back a couple of steps, unable to believe what she was hearing. That son of a bitch!
If that was true, then it all made sense.
Every time she showered in the bathroom...
Every time she changed in the bedroom...
All of those moments could have been her undoing!
Wendy's fists clenched, her eyes red as she looked at Jamie. "If you have anything else to say, just say it all at once. I can take it."
Jamie placed a hand on her lower abdomen and shakily stood up. She swayed for a moment before bowing deeply to Wendy.
"I've said everything I needed to. I owe you an apology for what I did to you before."
Then she smiled, a sense of release in her expression. "Ms. Clifford, be more careful when choosing a man in the future. We both have terrible taste, falling for scumbags. Alright, you should go back now. It's time for me to... go as well."
"My apartment... can one of you go? Check the bathroom and bedroom for cameras?" Wendy's voice was weak. The constant blows and trauma were pushing her body to its limit.
"I'll go," Maggie said, grabbing her handbag from the table. "We can't delay. We need to call the police. He probably hasn't released the files yet. He told Jamie he would act tomorrow, so that's when he'll make his move."
Janina shook her head in disagreement, cracking her knuckles.
"Don't you think just handing him over to the police is letting him off too easy? Besides, all we have right now is Jamie's testimony. We don't have any hard evidence."
"You mean..." Melody immediately guessed what Janina was thinking.
"We spend today gathering evidence on him. I'll get someone to hack his computer and get the proof. Then we can have a little 'chat' with him." She practically spat out the last two words.
Maggie slapped her forehead. "Look at me, panicking. I forgot about that. Without solid proof, he could just turn it all back on us. Right, we need to collect evidence. His computer and phone must be full of it."
