On command, four large, heavy-set women—friends and relatives Damaris had brought along—surged from behind her.
The five of them descended on Yvonne in a flurry of blows.
Yvonne screamed, trying to shield her stomach, but her hair was held in a death grip, the pain so intense it felt like her scalp was being torn off.
Outnumbered, Yvonne was pinned to the ground as the women began tearing at her clothes.
Maggie pointed to a particularly fierce woman who was slapping Yvonne's face. "See that one?" she said to the others. "That's Damaris's sister-in-law."
Janina and the others focused on the woman. It was true what they say about family; her appearance and her ferocity were a perfect match for Damaris.
Although the women's movements looked terrifying, they were careful to avoid Yvonne's pregnant belly. Most of their attacks were aimed at her face, which was quickly becoming bruised and swollen.
Yvonne shrieked, struggling relentlessly.
At first, she tried to fight back.
But soon, her strength gave out, and she went limp, letting them beat her.
Her hair was a tangled mess. In that moment, her eyes locked onto Janina, who was watching from the crowd.
Yvonne, as if grasping a lifeline, reached a hand out toward Janina, crying for help. "Miss Holt, help me! The baby is Julius's!"
Being singled out like that startled Janina.
Yvonne had the audacity to ask *her* for help?
Did she think Janina was an idiot, completely oblivious to everything?
It was laughable.
When Yvonne was hurting Liam and Joy, did she ever stop to think that karma would one day come for her?
