Two days later, just as Janina reached the Meridian office building, a crowd of people rushed toward her from across the street. Fortunately, the security guards reacted quickly, escorting her into the building and shutting the main doors, blocking the group outside. The person leading the charge was Damaris, with about twenty or thirty people trailing behind her. There were men and women, some even carrying cameras.
Damaris looked terrible, as if she hadn't slept in days. Her eyes were swollen with prominent bags underneath, her clothes were disheveled, and her hair was a mess. She charged forward without any regard for her appearance, her eyes locked on Janina inside the building. Janina didn't go out, watching the scene unfold with a cold expression. If Damaris had come alone, she would have met with her; she had questions of her own. But today, Damaris had brought a mob with her. And she seemed unhinged and foolish.
Just two days ago, she had called to warn her to take the children and run. Why was she now leading a crowd to besiege her? Janina had to reconsider the frightening volatility of human nature. People changed too quickly. Damaris, already an imposing figure, pushed past the security guards trying to stop her. But the guards were no pushovers. Initially, they had been gentle because she was a woman, which allowed her to break through. Realizing their mistake, they quickly called for backup and alerted the police.
Soon, more guards arrived from inside the building, forming a human wall at the entrance. Unable to get in, Damaris could only glare at Janina through the glass doors. Then, summoning the same ferocity she had used against Yvonne, she roared, "Janina, you've ruined my life and destroyed my family! Don't you have a conscience? You sent me a doctored video to make me think my husband was having an affair with another woman. Now I'm a laughingstock online, and I almost killed a pregnant woman!"
"That baby was born prematurely because of me and is still in an incubator! The mother almost died! This is all your fault! You did this! Why did you send me that video? Were you using me as your scapegoat? My family has been hurt deeply because of this!" "Come out! Come out and face me! Why would you do this to me? Stop hiding like a coward!"
Janina was speechless. This wasn't someone seeking justice; this was someone trying to pin all the blame on her. Yes, she had sent the video, and yes, she had wanted to use Damaris to deal with Yvonne. But Damaris had acted on it, which meant she believed Farmer was cheating. At the end of the day, this was her family's private matter. As for Yvonne, Janina couldn't care less what happened to her.
Not shirking responsibility, Janina opened the door and stepped out, though the guards remained in front of her as a shield. The moment she appeared, cameras flashed wildly in her face. Some people, eager to stir up trouble, started interviewing her. "Miss Holt, why did you frame Yvonne? Is it because your ex-husband is still in love with her, and you're jealous and want revenge?"
"Ms. Madison said you sent her the video. If you discovered it, why didn't you expose it yourself instead of going to Ms. Madison? Are you still not over your ex-husband, and you didn't want to look malicious in his eyes?" These reporters certainly knew how to deflect blame. What started as a story about Yvonne having an affair with a married man had now turned into Janina framing Yvonne. This move would not only quickly redeem Yvonne but also shift all the blame onto her.
Janina finally understood why Damaris was here today. Someone was pulling the strings, secretly advising Damaris to stir up trouble.
