After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 950

The idea of selling Isabella was especially hard to stomach. She was his niece, after all—the only family his brother had left behind.

“Yeah, Dad, let’s talk to Cynthia. Maybe we can get something out of her,” Paul suggested. “She’s a lot easier to handle than Isabella.”

Peter shot his kids a look, his patience running thin. “Cynthia’s remarried. She’s not part of our family anymore. She’s been living the good life for twenty years. Do you really think she’s still the same Cynthia from back then? Besides, she and Jackson split up on good terms. If we start trouble with her, Jackson might step in. And honestly, we have no grounds. Isabella is my granddaughter, so I can act like the concerned grandpa. But Cynthia remembers everything we did. She hates us even more now. If we go after her, it’ll get us nowhere.”

He paused, thinking it over. “But… we could try threatening Cynthia. Isabella’s her only child. If we tell her to pay up or we’ll keep bothering Isabella, she might hand over some money. Let’s keep an eye on Cynthia, see when she’s alone. Right now, she and her brother are both staying at Isabella’s place.”

Just thinking about the huge house Isabella got after the divorce made Peter burn with jealousy. He wished he could move in right now. After all these years, he’d never lived in a place like that. If he could spend his last days in Isabella’s mansion, he’d die happy.

While the George family schemed about squeezing money out of Cynthia and Isabella, Harold headed back to the Carter estate.

“I ate dinner at Isabella’s, but I only stayed for a couple hours. After that, I went to see her grandparents and the rest of them. Their shamelessness really got to me.”

Harold told her about everything the George family had done. Barbara was so angry, she couldn’t help but curse them right along with him.

When she finally calmed down, Barbara said, “You already knew Isabella’s relatives are the worst. Why bother talking to them? All they want is money. If they’d treated Cynthia and Isabella even a little better back then, maybe we’d help them out. But after everything they’ve done, they don’t deserve anything. Tell Isabella to hold her ground. Not a single cent. If they want to sue, let them sue. She’s their granddaughter. Even if they win, she won’t have to pay much anyway.”
