Mandy took the slap, clutching her stinging cheek. She turned to her sister, playing the victim. "Deborah, she hit me! And I don't even live in her house, I live in my sister and brother-in-law's house."
"Natalie, you aren't the lady of this house. Don't forget, my sister is the woman in charge now. You're just a guest here."
"If you can't stand looking at me, then move out. Go live in one of your own properties."
Mandy knew Natalie's wedding gift was incredibly lavish. Natalie owned several luxury apartments, villas, and commercial properties that generated rental income, not to mention countless high-end designer goods.
She was sick with jealousy.
Poverty had truly limited her imagination.
"Why should I move out? I married into this family. I'm a Lane daughter-in-law, which makes this my home. You're just an outsider who has overstayed her welcome, trying to drive a wedge between my husband and me. I've been sick of looking at you for a long time."
"Deborah, you'd better tell her to pack her bags. Don't make me kick her out myself. This isn't a hotel, and we don't just let any stray off the street crash here. Also, when your poor relatives show up, they are absolutely forbidden from staying here!"
Deborah waited until Natalie finished her tirade before saying, "Natalie, you've gone too far. You have to look at the owner before you beat the dog. Mandy is my sister. I invited her to stay, and my husband agreed."
"You slapped my sister right in front of me. If I wasn't home, you'd probably bully her to death. When my in-laws arrive for the wedding, I'll be sure to ask them exactly how they raised their daughter."
Deborah had no intention of getting physical with Natalie right now. She was about to be a bride. What if Natalie scratched her face?
Natalie's aggressive behavior tonight was clearly an attempt to provoke her into a brawl, just like they usually did.
She wasn't falling for it.
